how to use refilled Canon ink-jet cartridges

Refilled Canon Ink cartridges give far less problems than refilled HP cartridges: Canon deals with it in a much fairer way!

Actually, there are no problems at all, as long as you know how. So please check the following short video that shows how it’s done – using the example of the popular Canon PG 445 and CLI 446 cartridge.

Below the video I explain in words how its done.

When we refill ink cartridges we don’t usually change the reset chip – an exception are the PGI 1400 cartridges that are used in the the MAXIFY MB2140 series printers. Though we are currently working on soldering a new chip onto PG445 and CLI 446 and their respective XL versions.

So if there is no new chip,  the printer will therefore not see that the cartridge is full of ink again, it just sees the ink level of the ORIGINAL INK filled in by Canon. This means after only printing a few pages the printer will stop because it now detects that 1 or both of the refilled cartridges have completely run out of ink – which means OUT OF THE ORIGINAL CANON INK! When this happens the LED light of the cartridge that now – according to what the printer thinks – is completely empty will flash and so will the WARNING LED above. This can happen in rare cases for both cartridges – 445 and 446 – simultaneously.

When this happens you do the following press the ORANGE STOP/RESET button for 5 seconds or longer.

In case the printer stops and the Warning LED plus both cartridge LEDs are flashing – this means the printer ‘reports both cartridges as emptty’ : then press the STOP/RESET button once for 5 seconds and a second time for 5 seconds to set both cartridges to the ‘CONTINOUS MODE’.
