For HP the income they generate selling ink cartridges is more important than for Canon, because Canon is a much bigger more diverse technology company. By the way, most hp laser printers and therefore also toner cartridges are actually manufactured by Canon.
So it’s not surprising that hp takes more drastic steps to limit the use of refilled cartridges. in this video i am showing what you can do to stop them from stopping you to use ink refills:

1. uninstall their hp smart software. 2. change the printer settings as shown: a. under preferences set the country to UK or Germany. i am not sure whether this is really necessary but it does not harm. The logic behind is that hp treats it customers there better than in Africa, because they are more scared to loose the customer. b. never do a firmware update and switch off automatic updates. c. switch off all those settings that allow them to collect data from you about how you use your printer.
Anyway – it’s all shown in the video. it really works because i have tried it. I use refilled hp (and also canon) cartridges without a problem.
